Her arrival comes midway through the episode, after the long-running comedy acknowledges the coronavirus before jumping to 2023 following the resolution of the global crisis.
"People are frustrated enough without having to look for us to be frustrated," the executive producer said.Kevin Abbotttells TVLine about the decision to avoid COVID-19. “[The time jump] allows us to tell the story from a positive perspective while also addressing [the impact of the pandemic on our characters]. “Everyone has changed in some way.”
Among them is Mandy, Mike and Vanessa's middle daughter (played by Molly McCook), who is still adjusting to her role as Sarah's mother.

"Mandy is a professional woman who is dedicated to her career and [we found] that her collection has performed quite well during the pandemic," Abbott revealed. “But she discovered that what mattered most to her was being with her children, so she took a step back and became a housewife.
"She needs to work on her own feelings about this issue, which is seeing herself as someone else's mother and not seeing herself as someone else's mother."IAbbott explained. "She's still Mandy, but time will change her." Her motherhood will change her. "
As for the new father, Kyle, "he will be a pastor," the EP confirmed. Amid the many crises of 2020, “Mike’s son-in-law recognized how important faith was to many people. He is now stronger and more into his new career and we know a little about that.”
